Start with the right question

You don't need another opinion.
You need the right questions answered.

What is their actual current level?

What will coaches and scouts actually see?

What is missing from the player's game?

What should we be doing next?

Are we being realistic about the pathway?

College, academy or professional football?

Fit check

Is Cantera right for your player?

Cantera works best for families who want honest answers, not reassurance.

This is for you if

  • You want an independent view of level, role fit and next steps.
  • You are approaching trials, showcases, selection periods or pathway decisions.
  • You are investing time and money and want to reduce risk.
  • You are ready for direct, honest feedback.

This isn't for you if

  • You only want encouragement or hype.
  • You want guarantees of trials, scholarships, contracts or selection.
  • You are looking for representation, placement or agent services.
  • You want a quick opinion without context.
Built from inside the game

Football experience.
Without an agenda.

We have spent our careers inside the game, on and off the pitch. Between us, we have played professionally in England, reaching an FA Cup semi-final, represented Canada at senior international level, and coached within the national team environment. Our playing careers also include a national championships, and All-Canadian honours. We have worked in some of football's most respected settings, from FC Barcelona to the DFB, while helping to build the professional game in Canada.

That work includes founding, developing and operating a Canadian Premier League club and building its youth football program, lading the development of the CPL-U SPORTS Draft, leading youth, college and grassroots programs across British Columbia, guiding players through the mens and womens college pathway, and covering the game on national radio.

We are coach educators, and our credentials include the Canada Soccer A Licence, English FA talent identification certifications, PFSA scouting certifications, a strength and conditioning coaching licence, and a master's in sports marketing and sponsorship.

But credentials only go so far. We have guided many young players, including our own kids, into professional and college environments, and we know what it took to get each of them there.

That breadth matters, and it is current. Today we run the BC Premier League, part of the Premier Soccer Leagues Canada, and continue to work with professional clubs on how they present themselves through design and media. We know how to assess a player, and just as importantly, we know how clubs make decisions: what gets a player noticed, what gets them overlooked, and how they need to be presented to the people who choose.

Most football advice comes from one corner of the game. Ours comes from across it.

We are not an agency. We are not selling trials, scholarships or professional contracts. Our role is to help players and families understand the information in front of them and make better decisions.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

What happens in a match assessment? +

We watch a full match, assess the player and provide a written assessment with clear development priorities. You receive an honest picture of where the player is and what should happen next.

How do I get you the match? +

Send us a full-match link or file together with the player's shirt number and position. We will confirm everything before beginning.

What if we only have highlights? +

Full-match footage gives the most honest picture, because the moments that matter are often not in a highlight reel. If highlights are all you have, send them and we will tell you what we can and can't assess from them.

How quickly will we receive the assessment? +

Usually within 72 hours days of receiving the full match. If you have a deadline, such as a trial or showcase, tell us when you get in touch. We will discuss timelines in our intial call as well.

What's the difference between the options? +

Match Assessment gives you a clear read on one match and a plan to act on. Ongoing Development keeps assessing through the season and updates the plan as the player progresses. Full Mentorship is everything, built around one player. Private Advisory is a single call for a specific decision. Not sure which fits? Tell us about your player and we will recommend one.

How is Full Mentorship priced? +

Full Mentorship is built around one player, so no two are the same. We start with a call about the player's needs and goals, then give you a clear price for what's involved.

Is Ongoing Development a long-term commitment? +

It is billed monthly and requires a minimum 3 month commitment. We recommend at least this amount of time to see real progress, but the decision is yours.

Do we need a paid assessment before beginning training? +

No. Training can be booked on its own, and every player starts with a parent consultation where suitability and current level are discussed. An assessment does make training sharper, though, because the sessions are then built around what we have seen in previous match.

Do you work with players outside BC? +

Yes. Match assessments and advisory calls work anywhere, because all we need is footage and a call. Training takes place in Delta, BC.

Do you work with female players? +

Yes. We have coached and guided players through both the men's and women's game, including the college pathway.

Is this a recruiting service? +

No. Cantera is not representation, placement, recruiting or agent work. It is independent assessment, development planning and pathway guidance.

Do you guarantee trials, scholarships or selection? +

No. We do not promise outcomes. We help families make better decisions with clearer, more honest information.

How do we start? +

Tell us the player's age, position, current level, current club and what you are trying to understand. We will recommend the appropriate next step.
